Musicians United for ALS: A Night for Wayne Warnecke

A benefit for ALS United Greater New York — “A Night for Wayne Warnecke” — is set for Tuesday, April 15, from 7 to 10 p.m., at the State University of New York at Purchase, located at 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase.

Warnecke is a record producer from Pound Ridge. 

Performers and guests include the Average White Band, the Grammy-nominated Scottish funk and R&B band best known for their instrumental track “Pick up the Pieces,” Patty Smyth, Bernie Williams, Paul Shaffer, the Bacon Brothers, Elza Libhart and Kati Max.

Mayer and Pace Women’s Justice host toiletry drive

State Senator Shelley Mayer is partnering with Pace Women’s Justice Center to sponsor a Toiletry Drive in acknowledgment of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The senator and PWJC request donations of full-size items, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants, moisturizers, and feminine hygiene products. The drive continues through April 27.

Drop-off locations include Pound Ridge Town House, 179 Westchester Ave, Pound Ridge  and Sen. Mayer’s Office, 235 Mamaroneck Ave., Suite 400, White Plains.


Bedford firefighters set open house April 26

The Bedford Fire Department is hosting its annual hands-on Open House on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the firehouse, located at 550 Old Post Road, Bedford.

PRES is a cabaret

Some 85 children and teachers performed in Pound Ridge Elementary School’s talent show, “Cabaret,” on April 3. The teachers began the show, which included 20 acts, and the fifth graders closed it.


 

Running for a cause at John Jay

More than 150 runners, walkers and dashers came out on a misty Sunday morning to run or walk on the John Jay Community Trail in the 7th annual fundraiser for the trail construction and John Jay Boosters. Katonah’s Andy Condon, ’25, set a new course record (17:26) with his first overall finish. Chelsea Oxx of Norwood, N.J., won the women’s division in 23:57.

BEDFORD HISTORICAL SOCIETY PHOTOS



More than 50 families participated in the Second Annual Great Bedford History Hunt co-hosted by Bedford Historical Society last Sunday. Children solved clues that led them on a hunt through the Village and ended with treats, treasures and tours at the 1787 Court House & Bedford Museum.  “It was a great opportunity for families to learn more about our past and enjoy the many treasures in the Court House and Museum,” noted Liz Hallock, the society’s executive director. “Events like this really bring history to life in the community,” she added. Bedford Village Chowder and Marching Club co-hosted the event.


 

JJMS Color Run

The John Jay Middle School PTO held its Color Run fundraiser March 30 with more than 130 registered participants. The course was challenging but the color runners finished strong on the John Jay track and celebrated along the way adding color to their white T-shirts.
