Bedford Police Report April 7-13

Goats in the garden

On Friday, April 11, at 1:55 p.m., goats were reported in a neighbor’s garden on Meetinghouse Road, Bedford Hills. The dog control officer was dispatched. He chased the goats back to their house where he spoke with their owner who said his son regrettably had left the gate unsecured. There was some conversation about the need to restrain the goats. No further action was taken at this time.

Monday, April 7

9:47 a.m. — An injured goose was reported at a location on South Bedford Road, Bedford Hills. Patrol responding saw a dead goose in a parking lot. He removed it from public view to a secluded wooded area.

10:52 a.m. — Multiple units responded to a home on Cantitoe Street, Katonah, after a burglar alarm was activated and the resident said he saw on camera an unknown man inside the house. It was soon determined “the intruder” was the family dog walker who was there to care for a pet. The homeowner told police he didn’t recognize the man immediately and there was no problem.

Tuesday, April 8

7:32 p.m. — Chickens were reported lost or stolen by a caller on Succabone Road, Bedford Hills. The reporting party said they saw four black chickens in their coop when he left the house; four hours later on his return the chickens were gone. As he saw no feathers, he didn’t think a predator took them. Police canvassed neighboring homes but couldn’t gather any more information about where the chickens went. The reporting party called back the next evening at 7 p.m. to say all four chickens had returned.

Wednesday, April 9

1:10 p.m. — A sick raccoon was reported on Rock Hill Road, Bedford. On arrival, police saw its hind legs were severely injured but due to the location it was unsafe to dispatch. The dog control officer was summoned and arrived with a cage and was able to coax the animal into it to remove it to a safe location in the woods where an officer humanely dispatched it.

5:13 p.m. — A dog reported running loose on the property of the John Jay Homestead on Jay Street, Katonah, was in the custody of its owner when police arrived on scene.

6:29 p.m. — A resident of Bedford Hills, female, 61, was transported from her group home on Green Lane by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Northern Westchester Hospital after experiencing a manic episode. Staff at the home told police she hadn’t slept in five days.

Thursday, April 10

12:26 p.m. — Rotting vegetables and stale baked goods were reportedly dumped in the Bedford dog park on Beaver Dam Road, Katonah. The dog control officer responded and he cleaned up the mess so no dogs would get sick from eating it.

6:04 p.m. — A resident of Bedford Hills, male, came to headquarters to report an incident with his wife involving their children. He alleges her distressing behavior was documented by another law enforcement agency when they lived at another residence in Mount Kisco. He requested a report be made of recent incidents in the event they are needed in family court. Police say child protective services have been contacted.

Friday, April 11

7:31 a.m. — A resident of East Way, Bedford, male, reported his car was rummaged overnight and his wallet stolen. He knew the thief had already attempted to use his credit card but both attempts were declined. He’s been in contact with his bank and only wanted a report to be made. He was provided with paperwork to obtain a new driver’s license.

Saturday April 12

1:28 p.m. — A man was reported as suspicious standing on the bridge over train tracks near Bedford Road, Bedford Hills. He told police he’s a professional photographer who photographs trains and was waiting for a train to pass so he could take a picture. Police said there was no problem.

4:39 p.m. — A resident of Dickson Lane, Bedford, came to headquarters to report her husband from whom she is separated took their son on a scheduled visit but was now refusing to return him. Police say there are no custody agreements in place defining the situation. After several attempts to make contact, police spoke with the father who denied saying he wouldn’t return the boy and did so without further incident. A New York state domestic incident report was completed.

Sunday, April 13

9:06 p.m. — The operator of a red Subaru reported running out of gas on Woods Bridge Road, Katonah, told police she was “going through a tough time” and couldn’t afford to call a tow. A generous police officer gave her a courtesy ride to a gas station where she filled a can with gas and then returned her to her car where it appeared her battery was dead. A passing dump truck operator saw the police car and her parked car with flashing lights and asked if they could help; the truck driver gave the woman a jump start and she drove away without further incident.

10:43 p.m. — An employee of Pizza Station in Katonah asked police if they had a ladder to check on a sign in front of the restaurant that the caller thought had popped off its pole, presenting a safety hazard. Police arrived and thought everything looked fine. The employee said she would get a maintenance person to look at it in the morning.
