Valuables mysteriously missing in Katonah
On Tuesday, March 18, a cache of valuable jewelry was reported as stolen by the residents of a home on Cantitoe Street, Katonah. The wife said she embarked on a deep cleaning project in January; she discovered some jewelry not in its usual place in February. The husband said they’ve had workmen inside the house but he is always home to supervise. Police say the theft is under investigation.
Monday, March 17
4:18 p.m. — Police responded to a report of an unconscious man lying on the ground outside a vision care office on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills. Police, awakening him, say he is 46 years old and was unable to provide an address. Determined to be heavily intoxicated after being evaluated by a medic, he was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Westchester EMS for evaluation.
5:54 p.m. — Two loose canines were reported in a yard by a resident on South Bedford Road, Bedford. The police retrieved the dogs and identified and contacted the owner who claimed their dogs.
Tuesday, March 18
11:21 a.m. — A resident of a group home, male, 32, on Old Mill Lane, Katonah, was reported by staff as exhibiting self-injurious behavior. He was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
1:11 p.m. — A female, 86, requested police assistance outside of Peppino’s restaurant on Bedford Road, Katonah. Police say the matter was resolved prior to their arrival. No further information was provided.
4:17 p.m. — A horse reported loose in the roadway on Goldens Bridge Road, Katonah, was caught and secured by its owner as police were arriving.
Wednesday, March 19
5:43 p.m. — A man making an appearance in Bedford Court responding to charges issued by Bedford Police was detained at the courthouse. Police say they were notified by prosecutors that the man was wanted on a warrant issued by the Yonkers Police Department. The man was taken into custody by Yonkers Police and transported to Yonkers.
7:49 p.m. — A resident of Bedford came to headquarters to express concern for her grandson. She said her adult daughter and 3-year-old grandson were staying with her at her home when her daughter abruptly got up from the table during a meal and left with her son. The grandmother knew from security cameras her daughter had returned at least once to retrieve belongings. She relayed that her daughter has a history of mental illness and she was concerned for her grandson’s well-being. Police said there was no reason to believe the child was currently in danger.
Thursday, March 20
6:32 p.m. — Police went to a residence in Bedford Hills after Northern Westchester Hospital contacted them to report a woman had fled from the emergency room with IV equipment still attached. An officer knocked at the door but no one answered. They returned repeatedly looking for the woman with negative results.
7:11 p.m. — A resident of Bedford Hills, female, 65, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps to be treated for swelling to her face. Police say she is nonverbal and a resident of a care facility; it has yet to be determined how her injury occurred. No further information was provided.
Friday, March 21
10:30 a.m. — Contact was made with the woman who fled the ER on March 20. Police found her at home and she refused to open the door more than a crack. The hospital asked the officer to determine if the IV equipment was still in her arm; through the barely open door she showed police both sides of her arms which were not attached to any medical apparatus. This information was conveyed to the hospital staff and no further police action was requested.
10:41 a.m. — A resident of Bedford, male, came to headquarters to surrender two pistols he said he no longer had use for. He said he was in poor health and his permit was expiring. The firearms were entered into property and vouchered.
2:14 p.m. — A man came to headquarters to report an altercation he had at the Wells Fargo Bank on Katonah Avenue, Katonah. He said he was using the ATM inside the bank when another customer arrived behind him; it was his former landlord. He decided this was a good time for him to demand an apology from his former landlord, who walked away from him and got into their vehicle. The man said he approached his former landlord’s car and grabbed their wrist. Police say the man seemed unaware he was the aggressor. He was told it was wrong for him to have physical contact with his former landlord and that he should stay away.
Saturday, March 22
1:34 a.m. — A female who said she fell asleep on the train and missed her stop, leaving her stranded at the Bedford Hills train station, was assisted by police in summoning a Lyft to take her to her proper destination.
7:02 a.m. — A resident of Middle Patent Road, Bedford, requested assistance getting her dog into the car. Police responded with a dog assist.
Sunday, March 23
4:17 p.m. — A resident of Somers, female, 94, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital after reporting feeling ill and nauseous while dining at a restaurant in Katonah. She was transported by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps for evaluation.
6:46 p.m. — Police went to a residence in Katonah for an argument between an adult sister and brother. The brother said his sister was acting out because she hadn’t taken her medication and that she pushed him on the stairs. The mother said the two don’t ordinarily fight. A New York state domestic incident report was completed.
9:57 p.m. — An officer patrolling Adams Street, Bedford Hills, saw a truck parked and running in the lot of an automotive shop with three men outside of it. The business was closed for the night. The men told police they’d brought the truck there to be serviced but it still wasn’t running properly and they were trying to fix it. The registration came back to one of the men confirming ownership of the truck. They declined further attention and said they would fix the truck themselves.
