Crashed and left
A resident of Bedford Hills, female, 56, was arrested Friday, Nov. 1, at 6:47 p.m., on Adams Street, Bedford Hills, charged with driving while intoxicated. Police say she was involved in a one-car crash in which her airbag deployed. Dispatch advised patrol on the way to the scene that a witness said the operator was attempting to leave on foot. Police located her soon after; they said she smelled strongly of alcohol and was holding a bottle. She admitted to having crashed her car into a guard rail and said she was walking home. The officer told her she had to return to the scene. There she failed field sobriety tests. As she was moving with difficulty, an ambulance was requested. The witness told police he stopped his car after watching her crash. He got out of his vehicle and tried to talk to her at which time she told him not to call the police as she didn’t want to be arrested. Police found a second bottle of vodka in the back seat of her car. The woman refused medical attention and was taken to headquarters for processing. Her car was impounded by tow. She was released with three summonses and is to appear in court Nov. 13.
Troubled youths arrested, charged with larceny
Two Fox Lane High School students were arrested Monday, Nov. 4. One was charged with grand larceny, the other with petty larceny. Both boys are Bedford residents. Police say in October they stole a wallet and a cellphone from a fellow student while at school, failing to realize there are security cameras operating and located throughout the building, and how easily police were able to track where the stolen credit cards were used. One student is a minor and the other recently became a legal adult. They came to headquarters to turn themselves in accompanied by a guardian and were arraigned at the youth section of the Westchester County court system. They were released to the custody of their guardian. One is to appear in court Nov. 14, the other Nov. 20.
Monday, Oct. 28
1:36 p.m. — Residents of Pea Pond Road, Katonah, reported a missing necklace belonging to the wife. The last time she saw the piece was in June earlier this year. No police action was requested, only a report for documentation to provide to their insurer.
6:32 p.m. — Police received a report from Fox Lane Middle School administrators regarding a student allegedly selling drugs to other students off school property. Police say the student in question has an extensive history of disciplinary action and is presently receiving home tutoring off campus. Police said concerns and information regarding this student’s actions were relayed by the parent of another student who contacted them. Bedford Police took a report only. Westchester County Police are investigating the allegations.
Tuesday, Oct. 29
10:07 a.m. — A male, 7 months, was reported to have fallen by his father at their home in Bedford. On arrival, police spoke with the dad who said the child was in a jumping seat and jumped out and struck his head on the floor, which is carpeted. Police said the child was “laughing” and was in a “jolly mood” and appeared unharmed. No further assistance was required.
10:35 a.m. — A fire reported in the backyard of a home on Overlook Drive, Bedford Hills, was extinguished prior to police arrival by Bedford Hills firefighters who said a faulty pool heater was the source.
Wednesday, Oct. 30
10:37 a.m. — A male, 93, was reported unconscious at his home in Bedford Hills. He was taken by Mount Kisco ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital. Police said he was in the care of an aide who thought he may have had a stroke as he was unresponsive to touch or sound.
11:00 a.m. — A woman reported while walking her dog on Narrows Road, Bedford Hills, another woman walking a short-haired brown dog appeared; that dog ran towards the reporting party and bit her on her thigh. She was unable to provide information about the other party to police and went to urgent care to be treated for bruising and a puncture wound from the bite. A report was made for the health department and the Bedford dog control officer was notified for follow up.
2:27 p.m. — A small black dog wearing a purple leash and harness was brought to a veterinary practice on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, by a couple who found the dog near a Saw Mill River Parkway exit ramp. Bedford Police requested the veterinary practice scan the dog but there was no chip. The dog control officer contacted the Westchester County dog control officer to take the dog as it was technically found in their jurisdiction.
Thursday, Oct. 31
10:16 a.m. — A hiker, female, 58, who injured her leg, was located in the Butler Sanctuary on Chestnut Ridge Road, Bedford Hills, and taken to Westchester Medical Center by Westchester EMS. Her husband, who was hiking with her, contacted the police to say he thought they were about a half mile into the woods. Officers walked over a mile into the forest without finding her. A county medic located her and provided a GPS pin to the police who followed up with their UTV to get on the correct trail. The woman was carried out to Byram Lake Road where an ambulance was waiting. Police said her ankle was broken.
10:56 a.m. — A male, 86, was reported unconscious at a location on Katonah Avenue, Katonah. He was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps. A staff member told police the man suddenly “locked up and fainted.” He said the man was confused and has a history of seizures.
10:26 p.m. — A resident of South Church Street, Bedford Hills, reported someone poured soda on his car. Although he didn’t see her do it, he blamed the child’s mother who he told police “would find it funny.” Police asked his permission to pour water on the soda to wash it off and no further action was taken. A report was made for documentation only.
Friday, Nov. 1
7:55 a.m. — A runner on Reservoir Road, Katonah, reported they’d encountered a wild animal. What species of animal they saw is unknown. The animal was gone when police arrived. An indeterminate report was made for documentation only.
12:44 p.m. — A local pet rescue organization reported to police unwanted Facebook activity stemming from another local pet rescue. Police say the organization allegedly posting negative remarks is well known. The issue was a photograph negatively depicting an employee and their partner. Unpleasant words were exchanged via the social media platform and then all posts were deleted although the complaining party provided police with screenshots. No police action was taken. A report was made for documentation.
Saturday, Nov. 2
8:51 a.m. — A citizen reported finding an Airsoft pistol magazine on Bedford Road, Katonah, lying in the grass. Police advised it would be stored in a found property locker at headquarters for safekeeping.
9:46 a.m. — A resident on Old Katonah Drive, Katonah, reported a neighbor’s two Rottweilers often come onto his property. Police spoke with the owner of the dogs who said they get out and tend to wander. The reporting party said they felt unsafe about the dogs not staying on their own property. The dog control officer was notified for follow up.
9:52 a.m. — A caller told Bedford police that their unlocked car was vandalized while parked in the lot at the Center Ridge Racquet Club on Snyders Hill Road, Mount Kisco. They said they were inside the club for about two hours. When they returned, they found dozens of tennis balls had been tossed inside the car. There was no damage. The reporting party told police he may have been pranked by a friend. A report was made for documentation.
12:23 p.m. — Police and emergency medical personnel went to a home in Bedford Hills for a welfare check on a young female who texted a friend that she needed help and to call the police. The concerned party told police they thought their friend was having a psychotic episode. On arrival, they spoke with the young woman’s mother who said she and her daughter argued because her daughter wanted to go into the city and “mom said no.” EMS medics evaluated the young woman. The mother declined further medical treatment for her minor daughter.
10:06 p.m.— A male, 42, was taken from his home in Katonah by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps after complaining of pain when he inhales. He thought he might have broken a rib. Medics saw no sign of bruising or broken bones. He was evaluated by Westchester EMS prior to transport.
Sunday, Nov. 3
7:24 a.m. — Police responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle on Harris Road, located on Beaver Dam Road under the Interstate 684 overpass. The vehicle had sustained heavy front-end damage. The trunk and the driver’s side door were open. Inside, all paperwork was removed from the glove box and the plates were removed. The person who abandoned the car failed to remove the registration sticker or scratch off the VIN. Police ran that information through the DMV and it came back to a Bedford Hills address. Police went to that residence and spoke with the car’s owner who said he let his cousin use the car. The cousin was contacted and told police he let his ex-wife borrow the car the night before. Police attempted to contact her at the mobile number he provided without results. The men said they would deal with the car, which was towed by a Mahopac tow company. Voicemails were left for the cousin’s ex-wife to contact the police department.
9:05 a.m. — A two-car collision occurred on Old Post Road when one car rear-ended another at a stop sign. Minor damage was sustained to both vehicles. The driver who rear-ended the other driver is from Indiana and said he was distracted while driving and looking at his cellphone. The rear-ended party, a resident of Pound Ridge, said the other man immediately said it was his fault. Neither party was injured and an accident report was completed.
