Trailer theft arrest made in Fallsburg, N.Y.
After a landscaping trailer full of equipment was reported stolen from a commercial property in Katonah Oct. 16, Bedford detectives used video surveillance volunteered by neighbors and license plate reader technology to identify the suspect vehicle, which was traced back to a location in Sullivan County. The suspect vehicle was located on a wooded property in Fallsburg, N.Y., two hours away. Fallsburg police became engaged in the investigation and a search warrant was issued of the property. Fallsburg police and Bedford police found not only the trailer stolen from Katonah, but multiple additional trailers and landscaping equipment, farming equipment and recreational equipment, all believed to have been stolen, as well as narcotics. Fallsburg police arrested one individual who was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of stolen property. Bedford police recovered the trailer and most of its contents and turned it over to its rightful owner.
Monday, Oct. 21
9:37 a.m. — A car traveling eastbound on S. Bedford Road in Bedford Hills was struck by a falling tree, damaging the front bumper. Police said the car wasn’t towed and no one was injured.
Tuesday, Oct. 22
1:45 a.m. — A caller on McLain Street, Bedford Hills reported noise coming from a neighboring residence. Police knocked on the door and no one appeared to be home. The noise was identified as coming from speakers attached to the pool house. The officer unplugged them. The homeowner was unable to be reached and a message was left regarding the complaint.
4:03 a.m. — Police and emergency personnel responded to a rollover incident on South Bedford Road/Route 172. The driver told police he was traveling on South Bedford Road when he apparently fell asleep, driving his Mazda into a guard rail and then flipping it. The car was towed. The operator was evaluated on scene and said he wasn’t injured. Police said he was completely sober and not under the influence of any intoxicants.
2:54 p.m. — A caller on Guard Hill Road, Bedford Hills, complained about a white Jeep Wrangler “needlessly driving up and down the street.” Police looked for the described car without result. The caller contacted police again at 4:37 p.m. to say the car was back and still driving up and down for unknown reasons. This time police made contact with the operator who said they work full time for the caller’s neighbor who got a new car; they said they were setting the mileage for an upcoming inspection. This information was relayed to the complainant and no further action was taken.
10:02 p.m. — Police went to a residence in Bedford Hills for an argument between a mother and her young daughter about the girl’s reluctance to go to dance class. Both parties agreed there was some pushing and shoving. The mother became so upset by this behavior her blood pressure shot up. She was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance while the child stayed home in the care of a grandparent. A New York state domestic incident report was completed.
Wednesday, Oct. 23
12:52 p.m. — A Church Street, Bedford Hills resident reported fraud after a potential client gave him a fraudulent check. The complainant, who has a landscaping business, said he was contacted by an unknown party to provide an estimate. The landscaper requested half payment up front. A fraudulent check was sent to the landscaper who said he was not out any money. A police report was requested for documentation only.
12:53 p.m. — A man, 89, was reported deceased in his Katonah home. His daughter-in-law found him in bed. She called the police and medics arrived who pronounced the time of death. Police said the death appeared natural and no foul play was detected.
8:12 p.m. — A Babbitt Road, Bedford Hills resident reported packages meant for them were accidentally delivered to a neighbor who refused to turn htem over. Police spoke to the neighbor who said they returned the packages to Kohl’s instead of giving them to their neighbor. Police asked them to use common sense and give the clearly marked packages to their neighbor should another mistaken delivery occur.
Thursday, Oct. 24
5:16 a.m. — Police responded to a report of an assault between two women at Depot Plaza, Bedford Hills. The women work together at a bar and grill in Mount Kisco and stayed late to party after work. A bouncer/manager agreed to drive them home but while the women were in the car, one woman assaulted the other, scratching and bruising the other’s face. Police said alcohol was involved. The victim, a female, 33, from Bedford Hills, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Westchester EMS. She was only able to identify the female suspect by first name. Police expect to identify the assailant who will be arrested and charged with assault.
2:21 p.m. — A homeowner and real estate agent reported her home, which is currently on the market, was burglarized in the past in Katonah on Cherry Street. The reporting party said the house has been open for showings; she saw random items including a vacuum cleaner, silver candlesticks and other decor were missing. Police say an unlocked south facing window was the method of entry. A report was made for documentation and the reporting party requested no further assistance.
8:12 p.m. — Police responded to a domestic dispute between a husband and wife on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills. They spoke with the wife who said the argument arose while they were cooking. The husband’s use of alcohol was involved. The couple agreed to stay in the home together for the remainder of the night and a New York state domestic incident report was completed.
9:33 p.m. — A man reported intoxicated on the train platform in Bedford Hills at Depot Plaza was gone on police arrival.
10:44 p.m. — An employee at Rebel car wash on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills reported that a man stole three packs of cigarettes and two lighters and fled in a Subaru SUV. The employee described a man in his 40s who put his credit card into the reader but then quickly removed it before the sale could be processed. The stolen items are valued at $54.20. The employee said he would have to speak to his manager before pursuing charges or provide police with store video surveillance to aid in an arrest.
Friday, Oct. 25
1:39 p.m. — Car parts were reported stolen from a dealership on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills. Police spoke with the business owner who said an employee advised him parts were missing from the console and dashboard of a 2021 Jeep on the property. Surveillance cameras showed an unknown car with an unknown party approaching the Jeep with a flashlight; he stayed for thirty minutes and then drove away. The incident is under investigation. 2:06 p.m. — A McLain Street resident reported a presumably homeless man approached his home, looking for water. The homeowner provided the man with a bottle of water which the man accepted and left. He said his neighbor notified him the man was now on Barker Street. Police located the man who would provide his first name only and said he was walking to Armonk and needed directions. That information was provided and the man left.
9:06 p.m. — Police went to a residence in Bedford Hills on Robinson Avenue in response to an argument between a man and his teenage son. The father said they were still on the property in his car when the argument started. He said his son became irate and exited the car and walked off. Police found the teen near Babbitt Road and returned him home where the two agreed to not talk to each other. A New York state domestic incident report was completed.
Saturday, Oct. 26
11:04 a.m. — A bicyclist told police he was struck by a car at Old Post Road and Stone Hill Road in Bedford. The cyclist, an adult male, said he was stopped at the intersection when a car making a tight left turn off Old Post Road onto Stone Hill Road struck him. The cyclist fell off his bike. The driver said he never saw him. The bike frame was damaged beyond repair. The cyclist was bruised but otherwise uninjured. The driver was not cited.
3:43 p.m. — A caller reported a 2-year-old child they found wandering unattended near Old Post Road in the vicinity of The Farms. The caller located the child’s mother and returned the child to its home. Police spoke to the mother who on their arrival was holding the child in her arms. She said she was unaware the child had opened the door and gone outside. Police said the child seemed fine and there was no evidence of neglect. They spoke to the mother about keeping all doors locked around toddlers and due to the home’s proximity to a busy roadway suggested installing a fence.
10:59 p.m. — A caller on Bedford Center Road, Bedford Hills, reported their political signs were knocked over by an unknown party. A report was made for documentation only.
Sunday, Oct. 27
5:15 p.m. — A caller requested a welfare check on a work colleague who lives on Indian Hill Road, Bedford. They expressed concern regarding their colleague’s mental health. Police went to the residence but no one responded. When they attempted contacting the concerned party to share that information, that person also didn’t pick up their call or otherwise respond.
5:49 p.m. — A woman, 100, who fell at her Katonah home refused medical attention after slipping on flooring outside her bathroom. She allowed Katonah Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance personnel to attend to a small cut on her right arm and asked only that she be helped back into her wheelchair, declining to go to the hospital.
