Stole money for car insurance
A resident of Yonkers, female, 23, was arrested Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 5 p.m., after she turned herself in at police headquarters, charged with third-degree grand larceny. Police say she hacked into the checking account of a Bedford Hills resident beginning last April and continuing through December 2024. The victim reported the theft to the police in January 2025. Detectives were able to identify her using various tools at their disposal. She told them at the time of her arrest she’d used the money to make payments for her car insurance. She was processed and released on her own recognizance and has a date to appear in court March 5. Police say she had no prior relationship or knowledge of the victim.
Drunk driver cuts off a police cruiser
A resident of Piermont, male, 75, was arrested Friday, Feb 21, at 9:21 p.m., on Bedford Road, Katonah, charged with driving while intoxicated. Police say he was making a turn off Katonah Avenue when he cut off a police officer in a marked vehicle. He was pulled over and the officer saw an open can of beer on the console. The operator had bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech and there was a strong odor of alcohol on his breath. After having the man execute field sobriety tests, the officer placed him under arrest and took him to headquarters for processing. He was issued four tickets and a summons to appear in court March 5. Police gave him a courtesy transport to the Mount Kisco train station where he hailed a cab.
Monday Feb. 17
3:29 p.m. — Officers responded to a report of a bus fire on South Bedford Road, Bedford. On arrival they saw a charter bus pulled over; the driver said smoke filled the interior and everyone on the bus got off. The driver located in the cargo area a basket and a blanket that somehow had caught fire. When those items were removed the issue was resolved and everyone got back on the bus to continue their charter.
9:38 p.m.— Police went to a home in Bedford on a report of an unruly young man. On arrival they spoke with his father who said the two had disagreed and the son punched the father in the face resulting in minor pain and swelling. The father declined medical attention or to press charges. A New York state domestic incident report was completed and the injury photographed. The son had left the home prior to police arrival.
10:41 p.m. — A neighbor on Wood Road reported a strange dog scratching at his door. Police arrived and recognized the dog from the home where they had been an hour prior. Police brought the dog home.
Tuesday, Feb. 18
5:39 p.m. — A sick goose was reported at a sanctuary on Bedford Center Road, Bedford Hills. The county conservation department was contacted regarding the sick bird.
5:45 p.m. — A resident of School Street, Bedford Hills, came to headquarters to report a tire she thought was merely flat had actually been slashed, according to an employee at a tire store in Bedford Hills where she had it repaired. She thought she knew the culprit but had no proof. A report was made for documentation.
Wednesday, Feb. 19
1:47 a.m. A resident of Katonah Avenue, Katonah, reported a former boyfriend was outside her apartment and she thought he might need assistance; she believed he was intoxicated and had nowhere to live. Police found him outside attempting to sleep in freezing temperatures. Due to his level of intoxication, an ambulance was summoned and he was transported to Northern Westchester Hospital. The caller said she would make a few calls to friends who might help him.
6:47 p.m. — Police went to the Bedford Shell on South Bedford Road, Bedford, after a caller reported a suspicious person wearing a hoodie in the store for an extended period of time. On arrival they spoke with the clerk who said they were not the caller. Police spoke with a female who said she was on a work call. Shortly after, she left in her car. No further information was provided.
Thursday, Feb. 20
3:35 a.m. — A male, 21, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps after he went to the fire station in Katonah to report “hearing voices.” Police say he was shaking uncontrollably and was scared and homeless.
10:57 p.m. — A female, 89, was taken from her home in Bedford Hills to Northern Westchester Hospital by Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps. She told police she thought she had a stroke.
Friday, Feb. 21
12:00 a.m. — Police responded to a caller on Cantitoe Street, Katonah,
reporting a male looking in cars. Police arrived and found a teen who said he was playing “Assassin,” a live-action game in which players try to eliminate each other with mock weapons. While they were talking, another teen showed up and the kids apologized for disturbing the neighbors. Police advised them to stop playing and if there were other kids involved, they also needed to stop playing.
Saturday Feb. 23
9:27 a.m. — A driver going the wrong way on the one-way portion of Katonah Avenue was given a ticket.
8:42 p.m. — A trash can fire reported on Harris Road, Bedford Hills, was contained to a small metal bucket. Bedford Hills firefighters extinguished it.
Sunday, Feb 24
11:05 a.m. — Police responded to a report of people skating on the pond at the Bedford Hills Memorial Park when the red sign was up. They spoke to a group of skaters just leaving the ice who said the park employee had just changed the sign from green to red. A red flag indicates that skating is dangerous and not allowed by the town.
6:53 p.m. — A stop sign knocked down during a collision on Huntville Road and New Street, Katonah, was called in to the highway department to be quickly replaced.
8:57 p.m. — Police went to a group home on Old Post Road, Bedford, after a resident, 18, and intoxicated, decided to trash a door. He was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital to be treated for intoxication. Staff at the home decided to press charges and the resident was charged with criminal mischief and given a court appearance ticket for March 5.
