Who was there first?
On Monday, Feb. 24, at 5:05 p.m., a woman came to police headquarters to report an incident at the charging station in Katonah behind Tazza café. She said she pulled in to charge her car but was cut off by another car occupied by a couple who said they’d been there first. Before long, all parties were yelling at each other and taking pictures and then the other car left. The argument was verbal only. A report was made for documentation.
Drama at the dog park
On Monday, Feb. 24, at 11:19 a.m., two women began yelling and taking pictures of each other at the dog park on Harris Road, Katonah, after one woman inside the enclosure with her dog asked a woman attempting to enter to wait until she left. Police say a drama ensued, first with mutual yelling and taking pictures and then in the parking area after both women got into their vehicles and tried to leave but not before cutting each other off. Police spoke with one woman on scene; the other came to headquarters to report the incident which was documented and passed on to the dog control officer for follow up.
Monday, Feb. 24
12:06 p.m. — A mother in Bedford Hills called the police to report her son is using heroin and is drifting in and out of consciousness. On arrival he was alert and conscious and told police he was not using heroin but taking methadone prescribed to him for his recovery. He said he’d been sleeping and his mother woke him up. Police spoke to her about recovery and support services she could contact.
5:25 p.m. — A resident of Bedford Hills came to headquarters to report she was afraid her ex-husband was looking for her; they have been out of contact for a decade. She described physical and mental abuse she’d suffered but never reported when they lived in Mount Kisco. Police told her to contact them immediately if he showed up at her home.
Tuesday, Feb. 25
10:05 a.m. — The employee of an estate sale business was preparing items for a sale at a residence on Captain Theale Road, Bedford, when they discovered a revolver among the resident’s belongings. The resident is unable to care for themselves and through their power of attorney took custody of the gun for safekeeping.
12:44 p.m. — Police met with a Kohl’s loss prevention officer at the store located on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, who reported a pair of women who stole beauty items and fragrance and left without paying. The Kohl’s employee was able to give a good description of the women who are known to the store management for thefts up and down the East Coast. Police are investigating.
Wednesday, Feb. 26
6:20 p.m. — Two loose Yorkshire terriers reported on Croton Lake Road, Katonah, were gone on police arrival.
8:44 p.m. — A female, 58, was reported fainting at a restaurant on Post Road, Bedford. On police arrival she was in the hands of medics and was taken to Ridgefield Hospital by Bedford firefighters after possibly experiencing a seizure.
Thursday, Feb. 27
10:21 a.m. — A loose dog was reported by a resident of Mount Holly Road, Katonah, who complained about their neighbor who hikes on her property with her dog. Hiker and dog were gone on police arrival. Police left a message asking her to keep the dog from wandering onto the neighbor’s property.
10:36 a.m. — A woman came to headquarters to say her dog was bitten twice by a hound mix who charged off its property as she was walking her dog on Barrett Road, Katonah. She took her dog to the vet and came to the police. She said the exact same thing happened in 2020. The dog control officer contacted the hound’s owner who blamed their faulty electric fence. They were advised court action was imminent. Photos of the injured dog and its veterinary bill are in the possession of the police.
6:41 p.m. — A loose dog was reported near the Marsh Sanctuary on Sarles Street, Bedford Hills. An officer found it with no collar or tags and brought it to headquarters before taking it to South Salem Animal Hospital to be sheltered overnight.
10:20 p.m. — A caller in Bedford Village reported a possible intruder. She told police she became suspicious of her DoorDash delivery person and thought that after delivery they had entered her home. Police searched the premises, including the basement, with negative results.
Friday, Feb. 28
12:48 p.m. — An inexperienced driver traveling south on Clark Road, Bedford, crashed into a rock wall after swerving to avoid hitting a jogger they encountered on the dirt road. Police say there were no injuries and gave no citation. The car did not require a tow.
1:15 p.m. — An elderly driver who crashed into a utility pole on Old Post Road, Bedford, told police he didn’t remember what happened. The car went into a ditch before striking the pole. Police say the pole was damaged and the utility was notified. The car was towed from the scene. No citations were written and the driver wasn’t injured.
6:45 p.m. — New York state domestic incident reports were made over a period of a few hours at a residence on Harris Road, Bedford Hills. Police say the ex-girlfriend of a man went to his door and banged on it because she is upset about his new relationship. Door banging and profanity were reported. The man came to headquarters himself to report one of the incidents. Police helped him arrange to retrieve his belongings from the ex-girlfriend. His ex-girlfriend had packed his belongings in trash bags and left them by a dumpster. A report was made for documentation.
Saturday, March 1
11:29 a.m. — A resident of Old Village Lane, Katonah, reported teens egged her house. She told police it was a retaliation for some videos being passed around among John Jay High School students. Police advised her to contact the school resource officer for follow up.
8:12 p.m. — An employee at a dealership on Bedford Road, Bedford Hills, reported finding a passport. Police determined it belonged to someone who purchased a car from that dealership in 2024. The passport was taken into safekeeping by the police.
Sunday, March 2
6:17 p.m. — A resident of Valley Road, Katonah, reported finding an odd assortment of belongings on their stone wall. Police say there were two old winter jackets, socks and a new electronic tablet. They believe the clothing belongs to an unhoused man they’d encountered earlier in the day. The clothes were left on the wall in case he wished to retrieve them. The tablet was taken to headquarters for safekeeping.
3:29 p.m. — Police responded to a report of a man sitting on the side of the road on Cherry Street, Katonah, talking on his phone. The man refused to speak to the police and began walking towards Route 35. Not long after the officer encountered him again on Huntville Road, Katonah, but left him alone as he was sticking to the sidewalk.
