Lewisboro Community Volunteer Fair returns

The annual Lewisboro Community Volunteer Fair returns to the Lewisboro Library on Saturday, March 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fair matches would-be volunteers with local organizations in need of help. Organizers say it’s a great way to find out about all the volunteer opportunities in the area.

Stop by and speak with representatives of local groups who will have tables at the library with information on their services and volunteer needs.

There are volunteer opportunities for adults and teens.

The fair is the perfect way for newcomers to discover what the town has to offer, for retirees to put their skills to work in volunteer positions and for families to teach the importance of giving back to others. It is also a good opportunity for high school seniors to learn about potential senior internships.

Lewisboro Library is located at 15 Main St., South Salem. For more information, visit lewisborolibrary.org.

Caramoor president leaving at end of March

Caramoor President and CEO Edward J. Lewis III will leave the organization March 31 to pursue new opportunities closer to his home in Washington, D.C.

In his four-year tenure, Lewis led the institution through a complex post-COVID environment, and materially contributed to the venerable legacy of Caramoor and the Rosen House.

Working in partnership with the board of trustees and Caramoor staff, Lewis led the finalization and implementation of a strategic plan aimed at ensuring a sustainable path for Caramoor’s future. The initiatives of this plan included diversifying musical programming, a renewed commitment to building new audiences through meaningful and relevant community engagement, and an increased leveraging of technology and data to improve operations and inform strategic decisions.

Community Center of Northern Westchester moves to temporary location

By JEFF MORRIS

The Community Center of Northern Westchester has temporarily relocated to 669 Bedford Road, Bedford Hills.

The move was necessitated by the start of construction to expand CCNW’s facility in Katonah.

“For 28 years, CCNW has cared for thousands of neighbors with food, clothing, and programs from our 3,500-square-foot facility,” the organization announced. “Our operations have grown to meet the needs of the community, and it’s time to renovate and expand our home at 84 Bedford Road in Katonah.”

CCNW said the temporary relocation was needed to ensure a safer, faster project. It will be occupying the Bedford Hills building, on Route 117 near Green Lane, for approximately one year.

The Bedford Planning Board granted final approval for CCNW’s plans to expand the existing building last April, and site plan approval for the temporary location in Bedford Hills in September.

The long-delayed plan for CCNW to expand was facilitated in 2023 when the town was able to arrange for the parcel of land it was leasing to the organization to be conveyed to it by the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, which owned the land. That allowed the town to develop a long-term lease with CCNW.

The plan will more than double the size of the current building.

CCNW plans to have donations, food pantry, clothing boutique, some ancillary related services, and administrative offices at the temporary location, but will not be doing any classes or other instructional activities or skills training there.

Donation hours remain the same: Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday, from noon to 6 p.m.; and Saturday, from 10 a.m to 1 p.m. The phone number and mailing address remain unchanged: 914-232-6572, and 84 Bedford Road, Katonah, NY 10536.
