The temperature was dropping and it was freezing and windy, but the Fox Lane girls varsity lacrosse team was hot. The Foxes were on fire at the start for their first home game of the season Tuesday, April 8, against Brewster as Fox Lane opened up a 15-0 lead and cruised to a 16-3 victory.

With the win the Foxes remained undefeated, opening the season with four-straight wins, and senior star Zoe Stonecipher continues to lead the way and reach new milestones for her illustrious career at Fox Lane. Stonecipher scored her 200th career goal in the win over Brewster, and she recorded her 300th career point in the previous game, a win over Eastchester. She has 12 games left in the regular season plus the playoffs to add to her career totals before she heads off to play at SUNY Stony Brook next year.

Against Brewster the entire team got involved with seven different goal scorers and everybody on the roster playing several minutes.

“We’ve been getting better every day, and this was our first game at home and the girls wanted to come out hot and they were on fire,” said Fox Lane coach Jaime Williams. “Offense, defense, our draws, our goalies, we looked really good. A team win, everyone got to be involved, and we spread it around and played really well.”

Stonecipher finished with three goals and three assists to lead the way, including a nice behind the back shot that she ripped for a goal. Core Moore and Michaela Kaltsas also had the hat tricks as they each scored three goals and added an assist. Kamryn Boniello scored two goals and had two assists. Taylor Webb scored two goals and had an assist, while Dylan New also scored two goals. Sara Renz and Kayla Santos each recorded four saves in goal to team up for the win.

On Friday, April 4, at Eastchester, the Foxes exploded for 18 goals as four different players had a hat trick with three goals or more scored. Stonecipher scored four goals and added two assists as she reached the 300 career-point milestone. Dylan New also had a big game with four goals scored. Kaltsas and Webb each finished with three goals scored and an assist.

Moore also reached a milestone as she registered her 100th career point as she scored two goals and added two assists. Maddie Barrett scored two goals, while Sophia Bueti and Boniello each had an assist. Renz made six saves in goal for the Foxes.

The big test so far came on the road at Somers on Wednesday, April 2, as the Foxes survived with a 12-11 victory. Stonecipher had a big game with eight points, scoring five goals and adding three assists. Moore had the hat trick with three goals. Kaltsas scored a pair of goals. Dylan New scored a goal and had an assist, and Webb also scored a goal. Renz made six saves in goal for the win.

“Close game against Somers, we came out strong, but they came back and took the lead,” explained Williams. “It showed our perseverance as a team, they stuck with it and didn’t get down on themselves and came back to win.”

Fox Lane was set to host Hen Hud on Thursday, April 10, and the Foxes will be busy during spring break facing Niskayuna on Tuesday and Saratoga Springs on Wednesday, April 15.

“We’re back home against Hen Hud and that will be a good game against a good team,” added Williams. “We’re four games into the season and you want to see them get better each time out and they have. A lot of girls are stepping up and filling the spots, and we’re playing well. Our league will be tough with Greeley and Harrison, two of the top teams in the section.”
