Lewisboro Community Volunteer Fair returns

The annual Lewisboro Community Volunteer Fair returns to the Lewisboro Library on Saturday, March 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fair matches would-be volunteers with local organizations in need of help. Organizers say it’s a great way to find out about all the volunteer opportunities in the area.

Stop by and speak with representatives of local groups who will have tables at the library with information on their services and volunteer needs.

There are volunteer opportunities for adults and teens.

The fair is the perfect way for newcomers to discover what the town has to offer, for retirees to put their skills to work in volunteer positions and for families to teach the importance of giving back to others. It is also a good opportunity for high school seniors to learn about potential senior internships.

Lewisboro Library is located at 15 Main St., South Salem. For more information, visit lewisborolibrary.org.

Caramoor president leaving at end of March

Caramoor President and CEO Edward J. Lewis III will leave the organization March 31 to pursue new opportunities closer to his home in Washington, D.C.

In his four-year tenure, Lewis led the institution through a complex post-COVID environment, and materially contributed to the venerable legacy of Caramoor and the Rosen House.

Working in partnership with the board of trustees and Caramoor staff, Lewis led the finalization and implementation of a strategic plan aimed at ensuring a sustainable path for Caramoor’s future. The initiatives of this plan included diversifying musical programming, a renewed commitment to building new audiences through meaningful and relevant community engagement, and an increased leveraging of technology and data to improve operations and inform strategic decisions.

Gregory Edward Walz, 55, a Pound Ridge police sergeant and lifelong Westchester area resident, died Feb. 15 at Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital.

Born in Peekskill on Oct. 15, 1969, he was the son of Frances (Kaps) Walz and the late Carl Walz. He served as a detective for many years in Pound Ridge and was recently promoted to sergeant. He previously was a paramedic with the Westchester EMS and the Greenburgh Police Department.

Walz’s family said he always had something unique planned on the horizon. “His adventures included riding his motorcycle, traveling the world with his wife, camping with his family, golfing or just relaxing with his cigar and attending to his bees. He was always ready to go.”

He is survived by his wife, Lisa Perazzo, his brother, Christopher (Andrea) Walz, his mother, and other family members.

Pound Ridge Town Supervisor Kevin Hansan announced Walz’s death to town residents in an email Sunday.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Sgt. Greg Walz of the Pound Ridge Police Department due to a medical emergency last night,” Hansan wrote. “Sergeant Walz was a dedicated and highly respected member of our department, serving with honor, integrity, and unwavering commitment to our community for nearly 17 years. We extend our deepest condolences to Sgt. Walz’s wife, Lisa, his family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and respect their privacy as they navigate this profound loss.”

Calling hours are Saturday, Feb. 22, from 2 to 6 p.m., at the McHoul Funeral Home, located at 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. There will be a funeral service and police honors at 6 p.m.
