Lewisboro Community Volunteer Fair returns

The annual Lewisboro Community Volunteer Fair returns to the Lewisboro Library on Saturday, March 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fair matches would-be volunteers with local organizations in need of help. Organizers say it’s a great way to find out about all the volunteer opportunities in the area.

Stop by and speak with representatives of local groups who will have tables at the library with information on their services and volunteer needs.

There are volunteer opportunities for adults and teens. 

The fair is the perfect way for newcomers to discover what the town has to offer, for retirees to put their skills to work in volunteer positions and for families to teach the importance of giving back to others. It is also a good opportunity for high school seniors to learn about potential senior internships.

Caramoor president leaving at end of March

Caramoor President and CEO Edward J. Lewis III will leave the organization March 31 to pursue new opportunities closer to his home in Washington, D.C.

In his four-year tenure, Lewis led the institution through a complex post-COVID environment, and materially contributed to the venerable legacy of Caramoor and the Rosen House.

Working in partnership with the board of trustees and Caramoor staff, Lewis led the finalization and implementation of a strategic plan aimed at ensuring a sustainable path for Caramoor’s future. The initiatives of this plan included diversifying musical programming, a renewed commitment to building new audiences through meaningful and relevant community engagement, and an increased leveraging of technology and data to improve operations and inform strategic decisions.

Dog activates burglar alarm 

On Friday, Dec. 27, at 10:08 p.m., a burglar alarm was accidentally activated at a home in Katonah. The homeowner said it was triggered by their dog. 


Dead chickens and burnt biscuits 

On Sunday, Dec. 29, at 9 a.m., a pile of dead birds was reported in a South Salem yard. When police arrived the caller showed them dead chickens and burnt biscuits dumped on their property about 10 yards off the roadway. The caller said multiple people on the street have chickens. A report of illegal dumping was made for documentation. 


 

Monday, Dec. 23

9:02 a.m. — A caller reported damage to the fields at the Onatru playground in South Salem. Tire marks were observed on two fields but due to the amount of snow on the ground, the extent of the damage could not be determined at this time. 

9:45 a.m. — A white Jeep Wrangler was reported disabled and parked on Route 35 near Old Shop Road, Cross River. The operator said the battery was dead and he was waiting for his brother to bring him a new one. 

1:00 p.m. — Two cars collided in a grocery store parking lot in South Salem. One driver struck the other while looking for an open parking space. No one was injured. 


Tuesday, Dec. 24

7:30 a.m. — Animal cruelty was reported by a caller on Waccabuc Road. A pitbull was reported living outside in a doghouse that might not be warm. The dog’s owner was home when police came by and the dog was inside. The owner said the dog is reactive to other people and she leaves it outside when she is at work. No further information was provided.

6:00 p.m. — Police went to an apartment complex in Goldens Bridge after receiving a report of damaged Christmas decorations. They met with a resident who said she was trying to pay for candy canes her 4-year-old had knocked over. She left $20 in an envelope with an apologetic note on her neighbor’s doorstep. The neighbor did not want the money but said they wished the mother kept a better eye on her son. Police say these neighbors have a history of not getting along and have an upcoming court date.


Wednesday, Dec. 25

9:40 a.m. — Smoke was reported inside a Wakeman Road residence. The homeowner said they lit a Duraflame log but forgot to open the flue. Vista and South Salem firefighters were on scene. No damage to the home or injuries were reported. 


Thursday, Dec. 26

8:42 a.m. — A driver at the Goldens Bridge train station reported that when they shifted their gearshift into the drive position, they heard a loud noise. The car had accelerated and struck the curb and a tree. It was towed to the owner’s residence. 

8:55 a.m. — A male, 65, said he was sitting on the couch when he felt dizzy. He was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Westchester EMS and Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps for evaluation. 


Friday, Dec. 27 

12:50 p.m. — A male with a serious nosebleed was taken from his home in Waccabuc to Northern Westchester Hospital by Westchester EMS and Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps. 


Saturday, Dec. 28

12:00 p.m. — Police went to a home in Cross River when the resident, female, 90, asked for a welfare check. Police say her home was very cold with the temperature inside at 53 degrees and dropping. They said she accidentally turned the heat off after pressing some buttons. The officer reset it for 72 degrees. She apologized for calling the police who told her not to hesitate reaching out if she needed assistance. 


Sunday, Dec. 29

8:20 a.m. — A male with a long history of heart-related issues was waiting in the garage for an ambulance to arrive after calling 911. Police arrived first and administered oxygen. He was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

10:05 a.m. — Larceny was reported at a gas station in South Salem. Police are investigating. 

10:15 a.m. — Robbery was reported at a gas station in Cross River. Police are investigating. 

16:30 p.m. — Police contacted a liquor store in South Salem after a panic alarm was activated. An employee apologized and said there was no emergency. She was testing the alarm after hearing about the gas station being robbed earlier that day. 

18:30 p.m. — An Amazon driver said they were bitten by a dog at a home in South Salem. He said the dog ran out and jumped on him, leaving marks on his chest and arm. The girlfriend of the dog’s owner said she let the dog out to do its business and didn’t realize the driver was there. She thought the dog was up to date on all its shots but wasn’t aware if it was licensed.
