Mysterious wood heist
Lumber was reported stolen in Goldens Bridge March 31 at 6:00 p.m. The reporting party said 20 2-by-6-by-15 and fifteen 2-by-10-by-14 pieces of lumber covered with a tarp at a building site on Nash Road were stolen. Police are requesting that anyone with camera surveillance in the area please contact them to assist their investigation. County police were requested to provide information from license plate reading devices operating in the vicinity.
Monday, March 31
2:10 p.m. — Police went to a home in Cross River where a man was reported destroying property. They were met at the door by his uncle who said the man was upstairs. Police spoke to him in his bedroom and then his mother came by. State police were on scene. A New York state domestic incident report was completed.
10:30 p.m. — Police went to a home on Deer Track Lane in Goldens Bridge for a report of possible trespass. The caller advised that despite his previous complaints of two men and a woman coming onto his property, they keep coming. He claimed to have footage of one of the men dressed as a police officer; police looked at his phone but couldn’t see anything he described on it. He was advised to call 911 the next time the crew returns.
Tuesday, April 1
7:09 a.m. — Westchester EMS was on scene for a Cross River man who thought he was experiencing a cardiac condition. After being evaluated by a medic, he was told he was likely experiencing a panic attack. He promptly refused further medical attention and the medics left.
2:06 p.m. — A woman who fell down a flight of stairs in Cross River, suffering a large laceration to her head and other lacerations to her face was taken by Lewisboro volunteer ambulance volunteers to Westchester Medical Center. Bleeding was controlled by Westchester EMS until the ambulance arrived.
2:45 p.m. — A woman drove off the road and into a wet culvert in Cross River at routes 121 and 138. Police found her uninjured inside her dad’s car. She told police she had just checked her phone when she drove off the roadway. Airbags were deployed. The car was removed by tow.
9:45 p.m. — Police went to an address in South Salem for a person indicating they might self harm. She was evaluated by Westchester EMS and taken to Northern Westchester Hospital.
Wednesday, April 2
7:30 a.m. — A South Salem resident requested Lewisboro police take into their safekeeping a 56 caliber rifle, a small bag of gunpowder; two lead balls, a muzzleloader wedge pin, two gunpowder measuring tools and a muzzleloader component kept inside a brown paper bag. The property was put into safekeeping.
4:30 p.m. — A dog owner was reunited with her runaway pup who escaped, leash and collar on, from the Lambert Ridge area in Cross River. The owner said it escaped through her fence. Police told her they’d found her dog and she could pick it up at an animal hospital in Cross River. The dog was not injured.
6:00 p.m. — Two men were reported as suspicious in the vicinity of Indian Lane and Hoyt Street. Police said they were private investigators from Florida traveling in a gray Nissan.
Thursday, April 3
9:45 a.m. — Lewisboro police went to a residence in Goldens Bridge on Route 22 to serve an order of protection warrant out of family court in Orange County. A man who declined to give his name came to the door and said the wanted individual wasn’t there. Later that individual’s attorney said he would be at the station later that day. When he didn’t arrive, an officer went to his residence but no one answered the door. Three cars not registered to the resident were in the driveway and uncollected packages were observed by the door and the person to be served did not respond to calls or texts.
1:36 p.m. — A Merritt Court, Katonah, woman reported five boxwood plants on her property are dying. She believes her neighbor of 37 years poisoned them. Police spoke with the neighbor who denied any wrongdoing and said he will be moving soon and plans to ignore her until that happens.
4:25 p.m. — A neighbor dispute in Goldens Bridge in the vicinity of Beekman Lane was being mediated by a state trooper who was the first to arrive on scene. A woman insisted she was being harassed by young kids. She became aggressive when police asked her why she was filming a neighbor. A manager on the property indicated the woman might be confused about the identities of some people including the police and no further action was taken.
5:15 p.m. — Police went to a home in South Salem to check on the welfare of the residents after a school counselor reported a student mentioned an argument between her and her mother. Dad answered the door and said he was unaware of any fight. County police and a state trooper were on scene. They spoke to the girl who denied saying anything alarming to the school counselor. As she appeared in good health and there were no signs of abuse, police left the home. Their findings were relayed to the school principal and the county school resource counselor.
Friday, April 4
1:00 p.m. — A purse left behind at a cafe in Cross River was turned in to police who contacted the owner who said her son would retrieve it. When he failed to show up, police attempted contact but his mailbox was full.
2:35 p.m. — A snake was reported in a Waccabuc garage. The caller thought it might be a copperhead. Police arrived and saw it was a young water snake which they coaxed out of the garage and released into nature.
3:20 p.m. — A person was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated in Cross River. No further information was provided at this time.
8:00 p.m. — Witnesses reported seeing two males approximately 15 years of age wearing backpacks running away from the scene of a fire at the rear of Mill River Road in South Salem. Vista firefighters extinguished the flames. Police looked for the kids but didn’t find them.
10:30 p.m. — A loud party was reported in South Salem in the vicinity of Hoyt Street and Indian Lane. Police saw a number of 18-year-olds who were all respectful and peacefully leaving. The homeowners were just coming home from going out to dinner. They said they knew their son was having friends over and the father said he’d alerted his neighbors about the party. Police said there was no problem.
Sunday, April 6
10:20 a.m. — Police went to a home on Indian Hill Road in Katonah when a caller said there was a strange cat inside their house. The caller said it was a stray who’d been hanging around for a few weeks but they wanted it gone as they were concerned it might be carrying an illness that would be spread to their own cat. Police said they wouldn’t be able to take the cat but offered resource information about local rescues and shelters.
