Lewisboro Police Report Nov. 4-10

Attempted burglary via dog door

Monday, Nov. 4, at 2:55 p.m., police responded to a report of a burglary at a home on Chapel Court, Waccabuc, after the homeowner reported gutters were ripped from the front and back of the house. The home was recently sold to a new owner whose realtor reported the torn down gutters to him. The owner went to the home and discovered damage to the doorframe between the laundry room and the garage. He also saw the dog door was kicked in and pushed open, providing access to the garage. Copper piping was ripped from the radon mitigation system. Nothing was taken from the rest of the house. He believes the break-in occurred sometime between Oct. 26 and Nov. 3. New York State Police were contacted and are leading the investigation.  

 

Monday, Nov. 4

8:19 a.m. — Shower steam activating a smoke detector device brought police to a home in South Salem. On arrival, police were met by the homeowner who said she thought she’d canceled the alarm. 

11:20 a.m. — A burglar alarm was activated at a liquor store on North Salem Road, Cross River. The owner of the business was on scene and said the activation was  accidental.  

3:15 p.m. — A summons was served to a resident of Cross River ordering him to stay away from family members in Brooklyn. Lewisboro Police went to his residence where they were met by his father who said his son’s car was disabled nearby. Police found the son; he was served and his car towed. 


Tuesday, Nov. 5 

8:00 a.m. — A woman who said she “had a right to be there” was cautioned against placing political signs outside Increase Miller Elementary School. Police spoke with the woman who said she was more than 100 feet from the entrance to the school. She was advised the school’s superintendent specifically prohibited political signage on school property and she removed the signs, placed them in her vehicle and drove away. 

3:25 p.m. — Harassment was reported by a resident on Winterberry Circle, Cross River,  who said a man in a BMW was filming her on his cellphone; she responded by filming him. She told police she doesn’t know who he is and that two men walked towards her vehicle attempting to intimidate her. Police said she was crying on their arrival. They spoke to the men who said she filmed them and screamed at them. When it was suggested to one man his behavior might be perceived as stalking, the man claimed he had no idea who she was. The woman left and when police contacted her later, she said she was unsure what she wanted to do and needed time to think about it. 

4:10 p.m. — Homeless people were reported sleeping in the back of a parking lot of a gas station in South Salem. On arrival, police saw a 2010 Volvo parked behind a liquor store. Two people were unloading their belongings onto the pavement. They said they were on their way to Massachusetts and had permission from the property owner to organize their things. The property owner had no complaint and police left. 


Wednesday, Nov. 6

1:00 p.m. — A resident of South Salem told police that Tuesday, Nov. 5, he was outside his home when an unknown party yelled “What are you looking at?” several times; his response was to return to his house but not before he saw a man standing in the roadway wearing what he described as firefighter bunker pants with suspenders. Next to him was a woman holding a dog on a leash. The woman repeated, “What are you looking at?” and then the man called out, threatening to turn off the caller’s electricity. He then picked up a large rock and threw it at the homeowner. According to the report, it’s unclear what happened next. A report of the incident was made for documentation. 

5:50 p.m. — An alleged UFO sighting was reported in the vicinity of Dogwood Lane, South Salem. The caller said he was driving on Ridgefield Avenue when he “saw two UFOs in the air flashing red and green lights.” The man showed police a video and the officer saw lights flashing and flying in a parallel motion through the air. The police thought they were drones and told the reporting party there were no concerns. 


Thursday, Nov. 7

12:13 p.m. — Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Lewisboro Police went to Four Winds Hospital, Cross River, for a report of a female in emotional distress. She was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital for treatment. No further information was provided.

4:05 p.m. — Goldens Bridge firefighters, Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Lewisboro Police went to a residence in Goldens Bridge to assist a woman having trouble breathing. Police say on arrival the woman was very nervous but agreed to go to Northern Westchester Hospital for treatment. No further information was provided.


Friday, Nov. 8

10:50 a.m. — Vista firefighters extinguished a brush fire on East Street, South Salem. The fire was on a front lawn. The homeowner said he was unaware of the fire as he was in the shower and his neighbor called him. The cause of the fire is unknown. 

8:00 p.m. — A tree was reported blocking traffic in the vicinity of route 35 and 123, South Salem. Police moved it out of the road and onto the shoulder to prevent it from impeding traffic. 


Saturday, Nov. 9

1:25 p.m. — Police received an alert regarding a large number of vehicles traveling in the vicinity of Spring Street and Route 35. Observed were seven motorcycles and  many vehicles, one traveling with a Trump sign on a trailer, headed towards Cross River. Police say the convoy observed all traffic laws and there were no violations. 

9:45 p.m. — A loud party was reported at a home on Orchard Drive, South Salem. On arrival, police say all was quiet. 


Sunday, Nov. 10

11:17 a.m. — Police went to a home in South Salem where a female, 74, had swollen limbs, was unable to walk and was incontinent. She was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps. 

3:00 p.m. — A resident of South Salem reported that her mother, who is in early-stage dementia, met a man in upstate New York who talked her into moving in together. She said he moved his unemployed friends into the space and is using her mother’s Social Security to pay rent. The boyfriend has since moved the reporting party's mother to another place in Connecticut and has been soliciting her daughter for money and threatening to show up at her house.

 She told police he’s on probation for stalking and was recently arrested in upstate New York on a stalking charge. Police advised she block the man’s number and call 911 immediately if he comes to Lewisboro. Other referral advice was given including a recommendation to contact their mother’s boyfriend’s probation officer.

Lewisboro Garden Club offering ‘Holiday Swag’

The Lewisboro Garden Club is having a “Holiday Swag” fundraiser for the club. to order swags, go to lewisborogardenclub.org and click on the “Holiday Swags” button for the form.

The swags can be hung on a door or mailbox. They also make great holiday gifts for neighbors, a senior, or for yourself.

“Spread holiday cheer and community spirit,” the club suggests. Orders are due Nov. 24. Swags will be delivered by Sunday, Dec. 8. There is a $36, non-refundable fee for each swag.


Student collection aids four nonprofits

A Fox Lane High School student will be collecting items to help four different charities on the front lawn of the Bedford Presbyterian Church, 44 Village Green, from 2 to 6 p.m. Nov. 5, Election Day.

The effort, dubbed “We Elect to Collect,” seeks leftover candy from Halloween, crayons (used, whole or broken) tabs pulled off of aluminum cans and towels (used cloth or new paper).

The effort will support Operation Shoebox, The Crayon Initiative, Pull Together and the SPCA of Westchester.


Pound Ridge Massacre documentary screening, discussion set

The Crestwood Historical Society and Yonkers Historical Society will screen a documentary about the Pound Ridge Massacre at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at the Pincus Auditorium, Yonkers Public Library Grinton I. Will Branch, 1500 Central Park Ave., Yonkers.
