Musicians United for ALS: A Night for Wayne Warnecke

A benefit for ALS United Greater New York — “A Night for Wayne Warnecke” — is set for Tuesday, April 15, from 7 to 10 p.m., at the State University of New York at Purchase, located at 735 Anderson Hill Road, Purchase.

Warnecke is a record producer from Pound Ridge. 

Performers and guests include the Average White Band, the Grammy-nominated Scottish funk and R&B band best known for their instrumental track “Pick up the Pieces,” Patty Smyth, Bernie Williams, Paul Shaffer, the Bacon Brothers, Elza Libhart and Kati Max.

Mayer and Pace Women’s Justice host toiletry drive

State Senator Shelley Mayer is partnering with Pace Women’s Justice Center to sponsor a Toiletry Drive in acknowledgment of April as Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The senator and PWJC request donations of full-size items, including shampoo, conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorants, moisturizers, and feminine hygiene products. The drive continues through April 27.

Drop-off locations include Pound Ridge Town House, 179 Westchester Ave, Pound Ridge  and Sen. Mayer’s Office, 235 Mamaroneck Ave., Suite 400, White Plains.


Bedford firefighters set open house April 26

The Bedford Fire Department is hosting its annual hands-on Open House on Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the firehouse, located at 550 Old Post Road, Bedford.

Lewisboro Police Reports March 24-30

‘Spooky’ message 

On Sunday, March 30, at 9:10 a.m., a caller in Katonah reported a “spooky” message she received on Facebook Messenger claiming to be her dead sister-in-law. She suspects an unknown individual using a fake profile, although to what end was unclear. A report was made for documentation.


Monday, March 24

9:26 a.m. — A person who injured their face after falling into the street when pulled by their leashed dog in Cross River, was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps. 

11:46 a.m. — A man told police that two nights earlier while dining with friends at a restaurant in Cross River, his car was vandalized while parked in an adjacent parking lot. From the description, it sounded like the car was kicked. Evidence of shoe prints and dents to the body of the car were described. He said he was not going to file an insurance claim and would get the dents out himself. The restaurant owner told police there were no cameras in that area as it was supposed to be employee parking only. 

3:10 p.m. — Information was exchanged between two car owners in the parking lot of a shopping plaza in Cross River after a woman whose car battery died, causing her to lose control of her steering and crash into a parked car. One car was towed. No one was injured. 


Wednesday, March 26

12:56 p.m. — The operator of a dog walking business in South Salem came to headquarters to report a problem with a terminated employee they said became belligerent and threw things on learning they’d lost their job. Since then, she’s been receiving texts that frightened her. Police advised her to block that person’s number after paying them what they are owed through Zelle and cease further contact. 

2:00 p.m. — A resident of South Salem, male, came to headquarters to report a problem with a neighbor’s dog that came onto his property when he was outside with his young child. He said if he hadn’t thrown things at the dog, it might have bitten them. He completed a statement and the dog control officer will be following up. 


Thursday, March 27

6:20 p.m. — Police were dispatched to a home in Cross River for an argument between a father and son. The father said that while he was at work he received a text showing a safe, which had been in the father’s bedroom, was now in the son’s room. Police spoke to the son who said he’d done some damage and that he was no longer taking his medication. Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps took him to Northern Westchester Hospital for evaluation. 


Friday, March 28

2:15 p.m. — A liquor store owner in South Salem reported a man who allows his greyhound to urinate on the door of her business while being walked. When she confronted him and asked him to stop, he became irate and threatened to call the police on her. Police attempted to contact him and left a message. 

6:22 p.m. — Fire was reported on Schoolhouse Road, Waccabuc. Police believe it was ignited by a transformer explosion. Someone reported hearing a loud bang and then seeing fire in the woods. South Salem firefighters arrived and extinguished the fire and the utility was notified. 


Saturday, March 29

7:25 p.m. — A man wearing baggy pants was reported annoying and harassing customers at the entrance to a supermarket in Goldens Bridge. He was gone on police arrival. 


Sunday, March 30

3:30 a.m. —  A resident of Deer Track Lane, Goldens Bridge, reported a trespasser in their yard. His ring camera showed a woman sitting in his bushes smoking something and talking to someone. He yelled out to her to leave but wasn’t sure how quickly that happened. He emailed footage from his camera to show the police who recommended he call 911 next time. 

11:04 a.m. — Police went to Hoyt Street, South Salem, for a report of a suspicious vehicle. They spoke with the operator who identified themselves as a private investigator. Police asked why they hadn’t been notified he’d be working in the area. The P.I. said he was only going to be there a short time and would be returning to New Rochelle. No further information was provided.
