Lewisboro Police Report Oct. 21-27

Diamond ring gone, cash left it its place 

A South Salem woman came to headquarters at 3 p.m. Oct. 25 to report that a month earlier a white gold ring with diamonds went missing from her bedroom dresser drawer. When she went to get the ring, she found, instead, an envelope containing $2,200 in cash. She said the ring was a gift from her late husband 50 years ago. She said she never had it appraised and doesn’t know its value. Multiple people have been alone in her home working on her kitchen, but she said they were trustworthy individuals and didn’t think any of them had taken it. She asked for a report for documentation only and no further police assistance. 

 

Monday, Oct. 21

7:00 a.m. — A South Salem resident came to headquarters to be fingerprinted for his Florida pistol permit. 

11:00 a.m. — Another South Salem resident came to headquarters to be fingerprinted for employment purposes. 

12:50 p.m. — A cyclist traveling westbound on Route 35 in the vicinity of Spring Street South, Cross River, struck a pothole, causing them to lose control of the bike and crash. The rider was evaluated on scene by Lewisboro Fire Department medics and Westchester EMS and then taken to a hospital in Connecticut after complaining of shoulder and upper arm pain. 

10:15 p.m. — Police went to a home in South Salem for a welfare check after a caller on Route 35 complained of yelling and crying at the residence. Police spoke to the resident who did not seem upset or angry and said there was no problem. On arrival police heard no yelling or crying. 


Tuesday, Oct. 22

11:26 a.m. — Police responded to an address in South Salem for a reported accident. On arrival, it was determined it was a medical call and an ambulance was requested. The injured party was doing tree work at a residence with his brother when the rope snapped and struck him in the eye. He was evaluated by EMS and taken to Danbury Hospital by Lewisboro ambulance. 

5:21 p.m. — A male, 17, was reported missing from his home in Cross River; his father told police he left the house at 3:30; another person living in the residence said he left with a small knife. The boy’s mother tracked him via his cell phone which showed him first at the Goldens Bridge train station and then again in Scarsdale. His parents thought he was headed to the city where he has a girlfriend. New York City police found him at 8 p.m. in Manhattan and no further assistance was required of local police. 

9:45 p.m. — An order of protection was served on a patient at Four Winds Hospital issued from a family court in Saratoga. The served party was ordered to stay away from his stepfather and the Saratoga court was notified.  


Wednesday, Oct. 23

8:00 a.m. — The driver of a blue Audi was pulled over for speeding – 63 mph in a posted 40 mph zone on Route 35 in South Salem in the vicinity of Waccabuc River Lane. The operator showed the officer a driver’s license but said he didn’t have the registration as his father had recently purchased the vehicle. Police said the driver’s license was revoked for speeding violations. The car was impounded and the operator issued a number of tickets. He is to appear in court Nov. 25. 

7:25 p.m. — An officer went on a welfare check to a home in South Salem on Old Oscaleta Road. The person in question answered the door and said she was fine. 

9:50 p.m. — A car traveling southbound on Route. 121 near Todd Road in Cross River crossed the center line and took out about 20 feet of railing. The Department of Transportation was notified. No injuries were reported. 


Thursday, Oct. 24

7:00 a.m. — An injured deer was reported in the vicinity of Route 121 and Todd Road in Cross River. On arrival, police saw a dead buck in the northbound lane of Route 121. An officer moved the buck out of the lane of traffic and the Wolf Conservation Center was notified to harvest the carcass. 

9:10 a.m. — An officer observed a black Jeep Liberty traveling southbound on Route 123; the driver was using his cell phone. A traffic stop was initiated and the operator provided his passport, an expired driver’s license and the vehicle registration. A check with the DMV showed his license was suspended due to his refusal to respond to a summons or take a chemical test during a different traffic stop. The car was impounded and the operator issued tickets including a summons to appear in court Nov. 25. 

1:10 p.m. — Police went to a home in South Salem after a woman requested a welfare check on her daughter who hasn’t spoken to her in weeks. The complainant said her mother is unemployed and may be in a shelter in New York. No one was at the residence when police checked. 

2:00 p.m. — Police went to a multiple dwelling residence in South Salem after a caller reported their neighbor who doesn’t live there anymore keeps returning to the immediate vicinity and makes strange noises after dark. Police advised the complainant to get a Ring doorbell camera and let them know if the person returns. 


Friday, Oct. 25

7:40 a.m. — A car making a left turn onto Spring Street from Route 35 in South Salem collided with another car. No one was injured. A report was made for property damage only. 

9:15 a.m. — Burglary was reported at Paul’s Pharmacy in the early morning hours; Lewisboro police assisted state police investigating. A nearby gas station had video footage of the incident which was provided to the police. It was not reported what was stolen or how the burglars gained entry. The incident is under investigation. 

10:45 a.m. — A woman who fell between the train tracks and the platform at the Golden Bridge train station was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro ambulance after complaining of pain to her shin and knee. 

12:35 p.m. — Police went to a school in Cross River in response to a suicidal juvenile female who was taken to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro ambulance. The girl’s mother, who was also on scene, complained of chest pain. She was taken separately to Northern Westchester Hospital by Lewisboro ambulance. 

2:30 p.m. — Police went to a long term residential facility in Goldens Bridge after a caller said she hadn’t heard from her sister in several days. The sister said she was fine and would contact her relative. 

5:45 p.m. — A political sign was reportedly removed from the entrance to the Wild Oaks Road apartment complex in Goldens Bridge. The sign was located soon after in a trash bin. Police determined the remover of the sign is someone who lives in the complex. That person’s wife said he is on the homeowner’s board and the sign was removed as no political signs are allowed on the property. 

9:09 p.m. — Police and Goldens Bridge firefighters were dispatched to a home on Waccabuc Road for a reported oil burner fire resulting in the house filling with smoke. The fire was extinguished and the house ventilated. Firefighters found a rag inside the oil burner. The homeowner said she’d had the burner serviced ten days earlier. 


Saturday, Oct. 26

5:45 p.m. — Police went to Pound Ridge Road, South Salem for a report of dirt bikes. The caller said this date and the Saturday before around 3 p.m. she heard dirt bikes riding in the reservation which is across the street from her house. Police looked for the ATVs but didn’t find them. 

8:32 p.m. — Teens were reported ringing doorbells in Katonah. Police looked for the kids who had dispersed prior to police arrival. 


Sunday, Oct. 27 

9:10 a.m. — A male, 29, reported leg pain from sciatica at his home in South Salem. He told first responders he didn’t want to go to the hospital. His mother was contacted via phone and suggested police assist him into a recliner chair to see if that helped. 

5:43 p.m. — Police and South Salem firefighters went to a home in Waccabuc for an activated smoke alarm. The resident said there was no problem and the alarm was set off by cooking.

Lewisboro Garden Club offering ‘Holiday Swag’

The Lewisboro Garden Club is having a “Holiday Swag” fundraiser for the club. to order swags, go to lewisborogardenclub.org and click on the “Holiday Swags” button for the form.

The swags can be hung on a door or mailbox. They also make great holiday gifts for neighbors, a senior, or for yourself.

“Spread holiday cheer and community spirit,” the club suggests. Orders are due Nov. 24. Swags will be delivered by Sunday, Dec. 8. There is a $36, non-refundable fee for each swag.


Student collection aids four nonprofits

A Fox Lane High School student will be collecting items to help four different charities on the front lawn of the Bedford Presbyterian Church, 44 Village Green, from 2 to 6 p.m. Nov. 5, Election Day.

The effort, dubbed “We Elect to Collect,” seeks leftover candy from Halloween, crayons (used, whole or broken) tabs pulled off of aluminum cans and towels (used cloth or new paper).

The effort will support Operation Shoebox, The Crayon Initiative, Pull Together and the SPCA of Westchester.


Pound Ridge Massacre documentary screening, discussion set

The Crestwood Historical Society and Yonkers Historical Society will screen a documentary about the Pound Ridge Massacre at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, at the Pincus Auditorium, Yonkers Public Library Grinton I. Will Branch, 1500 Central Park Ave., Yonkers.
