Lewisboro Community Volunteer Fair returns

The annual Lewisboro Community Volunteer Fair returns to the Lewisboro Library on Saturday, March 1, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The fair matches would-be volunteers with local organizations in need of help. Organizers say it’s a great way to find out about all the volunteer opportunities in the area.

Stop by and speak with representatives of local groups who will have tables at the library with information on their services and volunteer needs.

There are volunteer opportunities for adults and teens.

The fair is the perfect way for newcomers to discover what the town has to offer, for retirees to put their skills to work in volunteer positions and for families to teach the importance of giving back to others. It is also a good opportunity for high school seniors to learn about potential senior internships.

Lewisboro Library is located at 15 Main St., South Salem. For more information, visit lewisborolibrary.org.

Caramoor president leaving at end of March

Caramoor President and CEO Edward J. Lewis III will leave the organization March 31 to pursue new opportunities closer to his home in Washington, D.C.

In his four-year tenure, Lewis led the institution through a complex post-COVID environment, and materially contributed to the venerable legacy of Caramoor and the Rosen House.

Working in partnership with the board of trustees and Caramoor staff, Lewis led the finalization and implementation of a strategic plan aimed at ensuring a sustainable path for Caramoor’s future. The initiatives of this plan included diversifying musical programming, a renewed commitment to building new audiences through meaningful and relevant community engagement, and an increased leveraging of technology and data to improve operations and inform strategic decisions.

Two Lewisboro residents were arrested and seven “ghost guns” were seized recently after an investigation by the Westchester County Police Department’s narcotics unit and supported by the Lewisboro Police Department.

Two men, 46, and 42, of Goldens Bridge, were charged with multiple felonies, including second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The fourth-degree weapons charge is a misdemeanor, the rest are felonies. The controlled substance charge also is a felony.

One of the men, a previously convicted felon, and the other man were found in possession of seven personally made firearms, a quantity of cocaine and unfinished firearm frames, police said. Investigators determined they had been utilizing a 3D printer to manufacture unserialized firearms and modifying flare guns into operable weapons, investigators said.

A search warrant was executed at their residence about 8 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 4, and they were taken into custody. The two were arraigned and sent to the Westchester County Jail in lieu of $3,500 bail.

The investigation, which is continuing, was conducted with additional assistance from the Westchester County Police Special Response Team, Emergency Service Unit, Forensic Investigations Unit, and Hazardous Devices Unit, and the State Police Special Investigations Unit, FBI Westchester Safe Streets Task Force, Queens County District Attorney’s Office and the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
